At the Winery
Winery
In the early 1980s, Mark Maxwell bought an unloved vineyard on Olivers Road in McLaren Vale. He revitalized the vines and built Maxwell Wines into a notable McLaren Vale producer. Today son Jeremy is in charge.
Maxwell Wines is carved into a limestone hill at the heart of McLaren Vale. Enjoying the moderating maritime influence of Gulf St Vincent, it produces small batches of quality grapes full of character. With exceptional sites like their 1953 Ellen Street Shiraz Block, the focus is on Shiraz and Grenache. The Maxwell Wines vision is that regardless of price every wine reveals the nuance of its site.
The Minotaur Shiraz, Ellen Street Shiraz and Eocene Shiraz are among Maxwell Wines' best. Their Little Demon range represents value for money. They are also known for their mead: fermented honey wine.
